25 Years of Parr Street Studios

Grammy-award winning Liverpool City Centre based Parr Street Studios are extremely pleased to launch the first in a series of 25 short documentaries celebrating their 25th anniversary.

The UK’s biggest recording studios outside of London, Parr Street was previously owned by Genesis. 2016 marks the 25th anniversary of Parr Street Studios as a hub for recording world-renowned artists from Liverpool and beyond.

To mark this anniversary the studio will produce, document and release a series of 25 recording projects, one for each year of its existence. These will highlight the heritage of the building and the wealth and breadth of artists that have recorded in the space as well as, vitally, the community, and environments surrounding the artists that pass through Parr Street’s doors and make the city an amazing space for artists to work, live and play.

Over the course of 12 months these sessions will showcase the breadth of talent passing through the building creating an archive of studio life and the creative community in Britain today.

Premiered with Dazed magazine, the first part in the series focuses on a special Liverpool-based live performance of minimalist classical composerSteve Reich’s three movement piece for string and tape, Different Trains. The documentary charts the recording of the soundtrack for the visual accompaniment to the performance by artist and filmmaker Bill Morrison. The film expands on the process that went into the recording, as well as the musician’s expectations of the performance.

An award winning studio complex located in the city centre of Liverpool with a reputation for excellence, Parr Street’s client list includes hugely successful artists across a wide spectrum of genres including Coldplay, Elbow, Doves, Paolo Nutini, Napalm Death and Rihanna.

Although an internationally renowned space, Parr Street Studios has always been a hub for Liverpool and the North-West artists across the eras. The studio has been a home away from home to the likes of Echo and the Bunnymen,The Lightning Seeds and The Farm, through to The Coral, Cast and theRoyal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Now, in 2016, the studio is proud to be working with the rising stars of today’s British music scene, including the likes of Clean Cut Kid, Bill Ryder-Jones,Sugarmen, Blossoms and Hooton Tennis Club.
