21st April 2020

Recorded at The Old Chapel Studios, Brighton Electric, and Small Pond Studios in 2019, and mastered by Hell Yeah Audio Mastering, all proceeds from the two singles will go towards supporting Brighton music company Small Pond through the coronavirus crisis.

Commenting on the singles and their reasons for donating to Small Pond, front man Duncan Harrison says: “The last 2 years have largely seen us write and record material for our as yet untitled third full length album, however, progress on this project has been placed on hold due to the outbreak of Covid-19.”

“Alongside countless other small businesses and artistic endeavours, the crisis has forced our friends Small Pond to cease activity for an unspecified time with little to no contingency for essential financial support. We are making 2 new songs from our unreleased third record available via bandcamp. These songs, as well as the rest of our digital discography, will be available for free or pay as you feel for the foreseeable future.”

“All monies raised during this time will be donated to Small Pond in a small effort to help protect a local facility which has been utterly central to our band since its opening.  We ask that anyone who can afford it contributes whatever they can.”

Formed via Gumtree in 2011, and perhaps best known for their earlier aspirations toward noisy math rock and loud hardcore, Broker’s music now places greater emphasis on influence from the worlds of jazz, post rock, prog and pop, bound together by more subtle threads of urgency and vitriol than previous work. The result is a distinct step into newly honed and more mature, melodic directions.

Broker have played tirelessly in their home town of Brighton and sporadically across the rest of the UK and mainland Europe, with appearances at Carefully Planned Festival (2016), Lenmania (2018), and Bad Pond Festival (2019) some more recent live highlights.

Since 2011 Broker have released several EPs and albums—the Piping Hot EP (2011), Argument/Counter Argument (2014), and most recently Quixota (2016), which was released by Smalltown America Recordings. All were recorded and produced by their drummer Mark Roberts, who is best known for his work with some of the most inventive and exciting new bands in the UK including The Physics House Band, Delta Sleep, Black Peaks, Dorje and more.
