CHERYM Reveal New Dirty John-Inspired Single ‘Listening To My Head’

10th June 2021

Fresh from landing on Spotify’s The Punk List and an ALT PRESS round up of “women and non-binary pop punk bands who are taking over the genre”, Northern Irish trio Cherym are pleased to reveal their new single ‘Listening To My Head’, which is released 20th May 2021 on Alcopop! Records.

The band were also recently highlighted by NME as “one of ten unmissable artists” at this year’s The Great Escape.

Commenting on the track, the band said: “This is a song we wrote after Hannah watched the Netflix series Dirty John. It’s written from the point of view of Betty Broderick, wife of Dan Broderick, a successful business man who used Betty to gain his success, tormented her life, left her penniless in the divorce settlement, took full custody of their children, and abused her throughout their relationship. In the end she ended up killing him…and his lover, but that’s beside the point. This is Betty’s song”

Serving up a zingy, fearless new recipe for pop punk rock, Cherym are a three-piece from Derry in Northern Ireland with some seriously infectious songwriting credentials.

The band’s previous single ‘Kisses On My Cards’ caused a storm among new music enthusiasts across UK media, with enthusiastic support rolling in from Jack Saunders and Gemma Bradley at BBC R1Tom Robinson at BBC 6musicJohn Kennedy at Radio X, Dan Hegarty at RTÉ 2fm, BBC Ulster, and a host of press coverage from NMEALT PRESS, DORK, DSCVRD, HARD BEAT, VISIONS, Punktastic, Hot Press, Nialler9, The Irish News, The Daily Mirror NI, The Thin Air and many more.

Taking influence from The Smashing Pumpkins, Bikini Kill, American Football, PUP and Pixies, the trio formed after meeting in college over a joint love of garage rock, pop punk and a desire to be the biggest band in the world.

Starting out as a kick-back against the local music scene boys club, their relentless enthusiasm and boundless energy are the perfect antidote to the drudgery of life under lockdown—a very, very bright shining light for 2021 at the end of what’s been a long tunnel.

‘Listening To My Head’ is released 20th May 2021 on Alcopop! Records
