Fast-rising Danish doom pop star Rebecca Lou is pleased to reveal her powerful new single ‘The Destroyer’, released on June 24th 2021.
The new track is the second single to be taken from Rebecca Lou’s recently announced forthcoming second album Heavy Metal Feelings which will be released on 27th October 2021 via WAS Entertainment.
Alongside the news, Rebecca Lou is delighted to announce a run of November 2021 UK Heavy Metal Feelings headline tour dates, with tickets on sale now (see below for listings).
A positive anthem about letting go of negative energies and boosting your confidence, Rebecca Lou says of the single: “I’ve been through some tough times, where I’ve felt extremely negative about everything, especially after COVID where I haven’t been able to play my music. So I needed to manifest and hold on to my dreams, and that’s how this song came into being. It’s basically about destroying the negativity around you and rising up again.”
“This track is quite special to me because the sound shows what kind of genre transformation I’m going through right now and the process is so much fun. You get these massive heavy metal drums and guitars combined with the sugarcoated pop beat underneath that drives the track forward. That’s the essence of doom pop to me <3”
Born on the island of Lolland in Denmark and launching her career in 2018 with her debut EP Skeletons, followed by 2019 debut album Bleed, Copenhagen-based doom pop newcomer Rebecca Lou is on a steep upward trajectory.
Pre-pandemic she was touring Europe playing shows at Spot Festival (DK), Reeperbahn (DE) and Waves Vienna (AT), and her music has been featured on multiple high profile Spotify playlists. The forthcoming album’s lead single, ‘Lovesick’, was recently named track of the week by Danish national radio station P3.
That the wildness of rock can’t be paired with the brightness of pop music has long been a tired myth—Rebecca Lou destroys that myth completely. She’s an artist who knows how to make trashy punk with doom guitars and heavy leather jackets, but her music also has a strong connection to pop’s aesthetics and is riddled with earworms. “I love rock, and it’s a huge part of who I am,” she says, “but my heart beats for pop as well. I love grandiosity and catchy melodies, and the story of a song is also very important to me.”
Conveying overt messages of self love and courage that she hopes will encourage others to be who they really are, ‘The Destroyer’ is the first taste of a truly exceptional doom pop album that looks set to mark Rebecca Lou out as one of the finest in her field.
“I hope listeners will get a confidence boost, gain self trust, and get the courage to take up space and be themselves just the way they are,” she says of the record. “It brings me a lot of joy and value in my life to dare to dream big. It’s a bit scary too, but if you aim for your dreams great things can happen!”
More details and new music to be revealed over the coming months.
