DZ DEATHRAYS Reveal Video For Latest Single ‘Kerosene’ Out Now

21st July 2021

DZ Deathrays are pleased to reveal the video for ‘Kerosene’, the final single to be taken from their highly anticipated fifth studio album Positive Rising: Part 2 ahead of its release on Friday 9th July 2021.

With a video once more directed by Joe Agius (Hatchie, The Creases), ‘Kerosene’ is a darker, moodier offering from the band that revolves around a compelling chord progression, rather than their signature riffs.

Stemming from an idea that was sparked during a writing session with Aussie electronic duo The Presets’ Kim Moyes (the beat you hear at the start of the track is from a demo made that day), it’s no surprise ‘Kerosene’ is a stadium ready rock anthem.

Commenting on the track, vocalist and guitarist Shane Parsons says: “‘Kerosene’ is all about this idea that we tend to spend so much time looking at other people and their lives and letting that dictate the trajectory of our own. Leaning into the ‘grass is always greener on the other side’ thing. Then the chorus flips around to say that you can be there waiting for others to figure out what they want to do, but just be ready to take on your own path when the time is right.”

‘Kerosene’ joins previous hits ‘Golden Retriever’, ‘Make Yourself Mad’, ‘Fear The Anchor (feat. Ecca Vandal)’, ‘All Or Nothing’ and ‘Fired Up’ from Positive Rising: Part 2.

All tracks have been met with acclaim from fans and industry alike with adds to local and international rock playlists on Spotify and Apple Music plus coverage from the likes of Classic Rock MagazineKerrang!MagazineDIY MagazineUPSET magazineDORK magazineThe Line Of Best FitBlunt MagRolling Stone AUNME and triple j

‘Fear The Anchor (feat. Ecca Vandal)’ was added to Amazing Radio (UK) playlists and hit #16 on New Zealand’s national Rock Radio chart. ‘Fired Up’ and ‘All Or Nothing’ were added to rotation at triple j, both making it to the top 10 most played song on the station.

Although separated by recent border closures and city lockdowns, to celebrate the release of PR:P2 the band (repped by Simon Ridley) are hosting a Positive Rising Bunnings Sausage Sizzle at Brisbane’s Cannon Hill Bunnings on Sunday 11th July 2021 to raise money for the incredible Support Act—an organisation that continues to be the backbone of Australia’s music industry, supporting arts workers through free counselling, crisis relief funding and COVID-19 grants during what continues to be one of the hardest times for artists, crew and music workers in recent years.

Joining Simon behind the BBQ on the day will be BC Michaels from Dune Rats.

Commenting on social media, the band said: “COVID has meant not only did we have to cancel our in-store signings this weekend, but once again, so many in our industry have lost work due to cancelled shows. In the spirit of keeping the positivity rising, we’re going to head to Bunnings Cannon Hill this Sunday and get on the tongs to help our mates at Support Act raise some much needed funds for workers in the music industry. Come down and say g’day.”
