Lockjaw Records Announce The Black Lives Matter: Punk Compilation

10th September 2021

UK/EU punk and hardcore record label Lockjaw Records are proud to announce they will be releasing a charity compilation album containing over 35 tracks from the punk scene and beyond.

The aim of the compilation is to shine a spotlight on bands with members of colour, and aims to raise funds forBlack Minds Matter Charity (UK) and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund (US) to help battle racism and inequality.

The compilation will be available to download or stream via your favourite digital service. You can also get a free download code with a purchase of a screen-printed poster or t-shirt via the Lockjaw Records website: www.lockjawrecords.co.uk/blm

The compilation has over 35 bands confirmed and announced so far, with more scene favourites, new bands, and songs from outside of the punk genre to be announced over the next few months.

The bands so far announced are The SkintsDronesThe TutsLa ArmadaCATbambooThe BellraysBelvedereProper., The SubwaysTokky HorrorNoopinionWebcamsBlack PunkOceanatorStraightlineThe KominasLilith AiHaest3LHHypophoraEdward In VenicePopes Of ChillitownMidwich CuckoosPassionflowerBlack PanteraTriple SundaeRundown KreepsEl Moono, and Love Again, plus a track from the hit TV comedy We Are Lady Parts.

The compilation also features exclusive tracks from Big JoanieSounds of Swami and Tree House Fire.

“After the murder of George Floyd we participated in Black Out Tuesday, and since then we’ve been having meetings to discuss what we could do within our sphere and scene to address the issues of structural racism and representation,” explains label manager, Lesley-Anne O’Brien.

“The punk and hardcore scene is really white. We felt the best way to address the issue of representation was to create a compilation that features tracks from people of colour within the punk genre, and tracks from outside the genre that have a ‘punk attitude’ & energy. We need to look outside of our scene and we can hopefully find some commonalities which we can enjoy and celebrate. And of course, we’ve got some great tracks from bands within the scene dealing with themes of anti-racism and social justice.”

Lockjaw Records are hoping to beat the target from their last charity compilation, which raised over £750.

The Black Lives Matter: Punk Compilation is available now for pre-order by ordering a A2 screen-printed poster or T-shirt via the Lockjaw Records website: www.lockjawrecords.co.uk/blm
