Fresh from appearing alongside Princess Nokia at Copenhagen’s Pride event at the K.B. Hallen arena, fast-rising Danish doom pop star REBECCA LOU is proud to reveal latest single ‘Capitalism Kills’, out now on all good DSPs.
An epic stadium pop/rock song about being a vulnerable person in a capitalist system, the track is the last single to be taken from Rebecca Lou’s second album Heavy Metal Feelings which is also out now via WAS Entertainment.
Rebecca Lou hits the UK on a run of November 2021 Heavy Metal Feelings headline tour dates later this year, with tickets on sale now (see below for listings).
“’Capitalism Kills’ is about being a sensitive person in a world with a system that profits from your low self esteem, your self doubt and insecurities,” says Rebecca Lou of the track, “a system where your worth in the eyes of the society is measured by unrealistic standards. And it’s about how suffocating it can feel, when you feel that you can’t break free from the structures even though you really want to direct your focus somewhere else.”
“I hope that people will listen to the track and maybe start questioning their own life and what’s important to them, so they can break free from the system. Just a tiny bit. Many of us are just living on autopilot without sensing what matters to us and why those things matter.”
Echoing themes across the album of reclaiming autonomy in your own life and finding something authentic inside yourself, the song is yet another killer example of Rebecca Lou’s empowering, bold 21st century pop—being vulnerable in a tough world that will do anything to prevent you from feeling strong.
Born on the island of Lolland in Denmark and launching her career in 2018 with her debut EP Skeletons, followed by 2019 debut album Bleed, the Copenhagen-based doom pop newcomer is on a steep upward trajectory. Pre-pandemic she was touring Europe playing shows at Spot Festival (DK), Reeperbahn (DE) and Waves Vienna (AT), and her music has been featured on multiple high profile Spotify playlists.
The album’s lead single ‘Lovesick’ was recently named track of the week by major Danish radio station P3 and is receiving heavy daytime rotation in her native country.
Previous singles ‘The Destroyer’ and ‘Bad Heart’ were released earlier this summer, receiving coverage from Apple Music, BBC 6music, Kerrang! Radio, Underground England, ASBO Magazine, DSCVRD Magazine, Distorted Sound, Come Play With Me, Bring The Noise, Maximum Volume and a blanket of specialist and regional radio support across the UK, Germany and Scandinavia.
Most recently, Rebecca appeared on the cover of Denmark’s biggest music magazine GAFFA in a stunning photoshoot promoting the new album alongside a wide-ranging interview feature.
New album Heavy Metal Feelings is released 27th October 2021 via WAS Entertainment
