STRANGE PLANES ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM ‘SOUTH OF OK’

11th September 2018

unnamedNorth London punk trio STRANGE PLANES are delighted to reveal details of their debut album ‘South Of OK’ set for release October 31st through Bad Horror Recordings.

To celebrate the news, the band have shared a driving new single titled ‘East Berlin Comfort Zone’. Listen and share HERE.

Recorded at Steve Albini’s famous Electrical Audio studio in Chicago by producer Greg Norman (Pelican, Russian Circles, Neurosis) ‘South of OK’ see’s the band dial up their amps and call forth a post-punk avalanche of noise whilst simultaneously building upon the melodic depths of their earlier releases ‘EP ONE’ (2014) and ‘Night Terrors’ (2017).

Commenting on the recording experience, guitarist and vocalist Ellis Slater said: “Making an album at Electrical Audio has always been a dream of ours and we loved every minute of it. We recorded the majority of the record entirely live to analogue tape which gave the record a raw and imperfect feel. In between takes we spent time in Chicago at the local bars and caught a couple of punk shows. It was a great experience and put us in a positive frame of mind to make the record.”

Explaining the personal meaning behind their new single ‘East Berlin Comfort Zone’ Ellis commented: “This is a song for anyone who is not too sure about themselves and always second guessing their decisions. For me it was about coming to terms with the fact that I feel lost, I always will, but that’s OK and it’s OK if you feel that way too. In a larger way, it’s also about authority and how easy it is not to question things in order to have an easy life”.

Known for their raucous, shout-along live shows, Strange Planes deal in driving rhythms and gnarled guitar stabs that hold a uniquely British lens to a wave of indie inspired punk bands crossing over the Atlantic. Citing artists like Meat Wave, Rozwell Kid and the Dirty Nil as major influences on their music Strange Planes display bursts of intense, controlled chaos that firmly underline their credentials as a band that should be on everyone’s radar.

Strange Planes have a number of UK tour dates booked over the autumn with an intimate acoustic album release show at Muswell Hilbilly Brewers in North London on the 2nd November with details of further dates promised in the coming weeks.

The album is available for pre-order now and can be purchased HERE in a variety of formats including digitally, on CD and a special half black/half red vinyl pressing.
