Belgian alt-rock band The Guru Guru are pleased to return with the official video for their new single ‘In 2073 (plenty of other fish in the sea)’ which is set for release on 3rd October 2023 on all good streaming services.
The track is the latest to be taken from their new album Make (Less) Babies which will be released on 27th October 2023 via Swiss label Humus Records in collaboration with French label A Tant Rêver Du Roi Records.

Commenting on the new single, vocalist Tom “the Bomb” Adriaenssens says: “If by 2073 the sea level rises drastically, other cities will become seaside resorts. In my mind this song is—again, sarcastically—a commercial for those new seaside resorts and their seafood specialties. Overfishing is a huge problem today. The saying “plenty of other fish in the sea” is based upon a reality that is no more. There aren’t plenty of them left. Many species have already gone extinct because of overfishing. We need to protect our oceans now. That’s the main message underneath.”
“The idea for the lyrics came to me after watching a documentary called Seaspiracy. We already had a lot of ideas recorded on drums, bass and guitar. The harmonics of Jan’s riff in the beginning of the song gave me a feeling of being under water. That’s what matched the lyrics with the music for me. I’m a big fan of maps, I’ve even been a geology teacher for a while. I really had fun reinventing the map of Europe, even though it’s not really accurate. Like in most of our songs, the words are used to exaggerate reality a little.”
The band’s forthcoming new album Make (Less) Babies was recorded by The Guru Guru at Farrm Studio, Hasselt with assistance from Jasper Vanden Bossche. The album was mixed by guitarist Emiel Van Den Abbeele and mastered by Laurens Grossen Mastering.
Early singles ‘Lotta Tension’, ‘Saint-Tropez’ and ‘Make Less Babies’ were released earlier this year and received early support from PROG Magazine, BUZZ Magazine Noizze, Bring The Noise, Soundsphere Magazine, and airplay from John Kennedy at Radio X, plus BBC Stereo Underground, Amazing Radio, Total Rock and more.
Happily dealing in deep express art rock since 2012, The Guru Guru combine feverishly angular guitars with off-kilter poly-rhythms, all complimented by Adriaenssens’ trademark erratic and unhinged vocals. While their influences are drawn from the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead, The Mars Volta, SOULWAX, The Jesus Lizard, and Andy Kaufman, the indie-math/psycho-noise rulebooks are decidedly torn apart, resulting in turbulent songs that somehow seem to develop into wriggling earworms.
Gracing the stage at PORTALS, Burn It Down, and ArcTanGent Festival earlier this year, the band recently announced an extensive run of EU tour dates alongside French hardcore punks Birds In Row, Belgian noise rockers It It Anita, a sold out stint supporting Dutch alt-rock icons De Staat, and a slot with French post-punks The Psychotic Monks.
