Yumi And The Weather Blasts BoJo COVID Bluster On New Single

27th November 2020

Brighton vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Yumi And The Weather (aka Ruby Taylor), is pleased to reveal a video for her brand new single ‘The More I Hear The Less I Believe’ which is out now.

The track is the latest to be taken from her forthcoming new EP titled Some Days on 4th December 2020 via Small Pond Records, with previous single ‘What Will Become Of The Wishing Well’ recently picked as John Kennedy’s Xposure Hot One at Radio X and winning support from Chris Hawkins on the BBC 6music Early Breakfast Show.

Commenting on the track, Taylor says: “This song is about people who say one thing, but then it turns out to be a load of crap. Cough, cough, Boris Johnson and most government leaders. ‘You’re gonna have to say inside, but you can go out for things’; statements that don’t make any sense. We heard this recently in lockdown and now it’s happening again. It’s a light joke about people who say meaningless and perhaps hypocritical things. Each verse reflects various people I’ve heard talk rubbish and me just taking the mickey a little bit.”

The single comes accompanied by a video directed by Daniel Hignell-Tully at 7000 trees, with Taylor adding: “Originally it was actually gonna be me playing different characters, but I wasn’t very well with IBS so we just kept it simple this time around.”

With subtle nods to ethereal 80s synth-rock, 60s soul, and New Romantic pop, forthcoming EP Some Days finds Yumi And The Weather shaking hands with the most self-assured and daring version of herself.

Taylor will also be exhibiting work early next year alongside others in musicians’ art show SUPER COOL DRAWING MACHINE, curated by Yuppies Music and touring this winter in a creative and forward-thinking use of UK music venue spaces in lieu of live performances (see below for listings).

Yumi And The Weather was scheduled to tour the UK with labelmate Bonniesongs earlier this year, before coronavirus forced the cancellation of the dates.
