AV Sunset Reveal New Single ‘The Cheerleading Elite’

6th July 2026

UK-based experimental instrumental quartet AV Sunset are pleased to reveal their new single ‘The Cheerleading Elite’, set for release on 6th July 2026.

The new track plays a hugely important role on the band’s forthcoming new album—amidst all the confusion, chaos and uncertainty of contemporary existence, ‘The Cheerleading Elite’ is intended to cut straight through the middle as a blast of hope and triumph.

Commenting on the track, the band say: “We kept the guitar effects down to a minimum here, aside from some reverb and delay and a bit of Ebow. The majority of this song is all about the interplay between the different guitar parts and we wanted the dynamics to come from our playing rather than our pedalboards. It’s the most delicate song on the album…at least until that riff drops in the final third.”

The single is the latest to be taken from their forthcoming new album Vs Reality, which is set for release on 4th September 2026 via Luton-based DIY collective label Vandalism Begins At Home Records, available to preorder now.

Recorded at The Arch in Southport with producer Tom Peters (AMTP, Empire State Bastard, A Burial At Sea), the album was mastered by Stephen Kerrison (Sans Froid, LIFE, Bicurious).

The album’s title Vs Reality comes from the album track of the same name, originally written as a piece of pure escapism—with its dream-like quality, it was an alternative world you could immerse yourself in. The band extended that idea to each song on the record, with every track designed as a separate sonic environment to get lost in.

“By the time we’d finished the record, the phrase ‘Vs Reality’ had taken on a different resonance,” they explain. “It’s becoming ever harder to tell fact from fiction, to know if something you’re watching online is genuine or an AI fabrication. This idea of our collective understanding of reality being under attack is something our designer Gavin Singleton fully captured in his incredible album artwork. Nothing is stable—the design is full of interference, redactions, secret messages, obfuscation. It’s hard to even be sure which way is up. So ultimately that’s what this record is; a soundtrack to our fractured, distorted collective sense of reality.”

Formed during the tail-end of lockdown in Northampton/Milton Keynes, AV Sunset self-released their debut album, Disconnections, in December 2023. Having gigged extensively across the UK, sharing stages with bands such as ASIWYFA, Slow Crush, Hubris, Press to Meco, VLMV and others, the four-piece have been steadily building a dedicated following amongst instrumental and post-rock fans around the world.

The band have a handful of select UK tour dates on sale now, including a newly-announced Manchester date for October 2026, with further live dates TBA over the coming weeks.

“We always write our songs with live performance in mind and we are so excited to play these songs to people at our upcoming gigs, they absolutely slam,” say the band of the upcoming live dates. “We’re more confident than ever as a live act and I know these gigs are going to blow people away.”
