BEAUTY SLEEP Embrace Their Kinks On New Single ‘We Don’t Talk About It’
Derry “radical alt-pop” duo BEAUTY SLEEP (aka producer/songwriters Cheylene Murphy and Ryan McGroarty) are pleased to return with new single ‘We Don’t Talk About It’ released 22nd July 2026 via Alcopop! Records.
A sexual awakening anthem dedicated to throwing off the shackles of a sheltered Catholic School upbringing, ‘We Don’t Talk About It’ is a glitter-pop ode to embracing the kinkier side of life, and yourself.
Commenting on the song, the band’s Cheylene Murphy says: “This song is about flirting with people and kinky sex, in a very cute wink wink nudge nudge way. We grew up in a culture very repressed about sex (we both went to Catholic Schools in Derry) and a big part of the long journey to understand yourself and be happy was embracing our sexuality and exploring kinks. As the album is about that journey, we needed a little nod to kinkiness, but as the song suggests, it’s hotter when we don’t talk about it…”
The track is taken from the duo’s fantastically maximalist second album, The Whole Damn Cake, which is out now via Alcopop! Records.
Previous singles ‘BIG + BAD’, ‘Radical Happiness’, ‘Unfamiliar’, and ‘Send It To The Sea’ were released late last year picking up radio support from RTÉ 2FM, Today FM, and coverage from EARMILK, Hot Press, Joe.ie, Sunday Life, The Irish News, Nialler 9, The Thin Air, Chordblossom, Golden Plec, Fresh On The Net, Get In Her Ears and more.
The duo rounded out last year supporting rising pop newcomer Jessica Winter in Dublin before completing their first UK & Ireland headline tour, which included a sold out album launch at The Empire in Belfast.
Since releasing the album, Murphy has spent a stint as a musician and musical director for a new punk rock musical about the NI Women’s Coalition in the 90s called ‘Cuckoo-Land‘ at The MAC in Belfast, whilst McGroarty has been producing a raft of new artists in Belfast including Touzai, Tess Valentine, and Niall Doherty.
The pair have also been writing lullabies with new parents as part of the Carnegie Hall initiative ‘Lullaby Project‘s pilot in Northern Ireland, and were musicians in residence as part of research for music provision for autistic kids with Southampton University in a special school class in Warrenpoint, Northern Ireland.
Following scorching performances at Stendhal Festival and 2000trees earlier this month, the band will also appear at Fleadh Festival, Belfast this coming August.
