Brighton’s PROJECTOR Return With New Single ‘I Need A Lie Down’

1st October 2026 • •

Brighton quartet PROJECTOR are today pleased to return with new single ‘I Need A Lie Down’, set for digital release on 1st October 2026 via Alcopop! Records.

Engineered and mixed by drummer Callum Marinho and the band’s new guitarist Rowan McIntosh, originally released as a limited edition 7” physical exclusive with respected French music magazine MOWNO, the track is now available for the first time on all good digital service providers.

“This song was a bit of an experiment,” says front man Edward Ensbury. “We have a new member, Rowan, playing guitar and this was our first time writing and recording with him. He was previously our session guitarist for live stuff, but he was so much fun that we asked him to become a fully-fledged member. The idiot said yes and now we don’t have to pay him. Him and Callum also recorded and produced the songs.”

“‘I Need A Lie Down’ is pretty deranged. We were all very excited to be playing together after so long and I think that’s why it came out so mad and all over the place. As a first experiment with the new line up, we’re quite happy with it. As for whether it’ll be our new direction, who knows? Callum wants to make drum and bass, I want to make Phantom of the Opera…”

“I wanted to write something to play live that would maybe make people feel sick and culminate in a horrific wall of noise,” adds vocalist/bassist Lucy Sheehan, “so I wrote a stupid bass line and the boyos added the terror and shrieking. Good to get back to your roots.”

‘I Need A Lie Down’ comes alongside news of the band’s 2026 France headline tour dates, as well as a London show supporting BO NINGEN to round out the year on 16th November 2026 as part of Alcopop! Records’ 20th anniversary celebrations.

“We’ve got a fast-growing love of France and its music culture,” says Sheehan of the tour news and single release. “We always feel incredibly at home. I think we’d move there if we could. So many great bands and venues. MOWNO really feel at the centre of all that. I love print too – when I was young all I wanted to do on a Saturday was go to WHSmiths and choose my music mag for the week, hopefully with the bonus CD. It was such a joy to get to do something like this with MOWNO. They also put on a release party for us in June – it happened to be 40 degrees that day in Paris and we had to keep a lot of our gear literally in a fridge backstage to keep it working, but we had the best time.”

PROJECTOR released their second album, Contempt, in 2025 via new label home Alcopop! Records. Recorded and produced by Ben Hampson (DITZ, Lambrini Girls) and mastered by Katie Tavini, Contempt followed on from the critical success of their 2024 debut NOW WHEN WE TALK IT’S VIOLENCE (Venn Records).

Early singles ‘The Sham! The Sham! The Sham!’, ‘Collision’, ‘It Surely Has Been Hell’ and ‘Migraine’ were released over the course of the year, picking up support from BBC 6music, Radio X, BBC introducing, Amazing Radio, The Line of Best Fit, Get In Her Ears and more.

Over the past year they’ve toured with Canadian rock heavyweights Cleopatrick, wrapped a run of UK/France October 2025 headline tour dates, completed an EU support tour with Scottish indie rock band Swim School, and made appearances at TRUCK Festival and headlined Homegrown Festival.

Currently in the studio putting the finishing touches to a new body of work slated for a 2027 release, Sheehan and the band are already chomping at the bit for fans to hear it.

“I don’t want to give too much away but… it’s really exciting,” she enthuses. “We’ve got some plans brewing, we’ve been messing around with a lot of different sounds and ways of writing…it’s coming out pretty weird but I think our folk will like it. I would say they won’t have to wait too long to hear it and see it either.”
