Bristol Noisy Pop Duo SUN SPOT Stream Debut Single ‘Sunlight’

17th May 2019

Formed in 2018, Sun Spot are a noisy pop duo from Bristol. Inspired by a shared love for new wave and American indie music, the pair boast a perfect marriage of sugary-sweet pop hooks with pulsing, electronic beats and angular, reverb-drenched guitars. Though rooted in dance music, their creative output is driven by an affinity for experimentation.

Mastered by Greg Calbi (Tame Impala, MGMT), the band’s debut single ‘Sunlight’ is released on 17th May 2019 via Beth Shalom Records, and serves as the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the duo, as vocalist Will Palmer explains, “Sun Spot has been a thing for nearly a year now, and in that time, it’s changed a whole lot.”

Palmer’s bandmate—guitarist and producer George Turner—was always involved with the project from its inception, but entering this new phase for Sun Spot his role has shifted from supporting member to the creative force that defines their sound. Simply put, Sun Spot has become a banner under which the pair can unite their creative output.

“It means the sky’s the limit,” continues Palmer, “and we have no intention of letting things get stale or sticking to a formula, which will be obvious in all the music we’re excited to share very soon.”

Sunlight’ itself as a song is about perpetually chasing an elusive state of happiness. “The lyrics reflect the times in my life where my mental wellbeing has been at an all time low,” explains Palmer. “Going outside, getting out of bed or even just interacting with the people that care about you the most becomes the most unnatural thing, and the thought of being normal or happy again feels impossible.”

“It’s normal to feel low but feeling happy again becomes this cycle that seems a bit like chasing the dragon. ‘Sunlight’ is about that state of mind, and the kind of optimism you have to impose on yourself—even if you don’t necessarily believe it at the time, it always gets better.”

Sunlight is released 17th May 2019 via Beth Shalom Records.
