CASSELS Struggle With Climate Change Inactivity On New Single ‘The Queue At The Chemists’

23rd July 2019

Fresh from a secret support slot with New York hardcore punks Show Me The Body last week, London duo CASSELS have revealed the video their new single ‘The Queue At The Chemists’. Out now, the song is the latest to be taken from their ambitious second album, The Perfect Ending, released on 6th September 2019 via Big Scary Monsters Recordings.

Following a UK support tour with Belgian noise band BRUTUS last month, the band will be appearing at TRUCK Festival later this month, and have just announced a run of UK tour dates for September and October 2019 supporting Bristol alt/garage punks The St Pierre Snake Invasion.

The video for ‘The Queue At The Chemists’ forms the third of four scheduled interconnecting releases from the album, each with an accompanying video that ties together the narrative of the record. Part one—‘The Perfect Ending’—can be seen here, with part two—’The Leaking Ark’—available here.

Commenting on the single, front man Jim Beck says: “While the last two singles were broadly about animals and plants, this one is about humans. Specifically, about how many of us are now fully aware of the irreparable damage we’re doing to the planet, but are still not taking any meaningful action to prevent it. In reality, climate change is too huge an issue to carry around in our heads every day, and so inevitably pales into insignificance when faced with the microscopic inconveniences and trivialities of modern life.”

“Even those of us who consider ourselves environmentally conscientious aren’t going to stop buying oranges and mangos which have been flown half way around the world, or burning fossil fuels so we can travel around on tour singing songs about how many of us are now fully aware of the irreparable damage we’re doing to the planet, but are still not taking any meaningful action to prevent it.”

The band’s debut album, Epithet, was released in October 2017 and produced by Rocky Reilly (And So I Watch You From Afar, Adebisi Shank), receiving a swathe of praise from NME, DIY, UPSET, Goldflakepaint, Louder Than War and many more. Following this release the band embarked on UK tours with Single Mothers, Meat Wave and Youth Man, and a two week European stint with Gender Roles. Over the past couple of years they’ve also played shows with bands including Idles, Car Seat Headrest, Ho99o9, Eagulls, Bo Ningen and Slaves, as well as festivals including Truck, Y Not, ArcTanGent, 2000 Trees and T In The Park.

The Perfect Ending is released 6th September 2019 via Big Scary Monsters
