CLEAN CUT KID Reveal Heartwarming Video For ‘Heavy As’

10th September 2021

Liverpool lo-fi indie folk quartet CLEAN CUT KID are delighted to reveal the official video for their new single ‘Heavy As’, which is out now on all good digital service providers.

The video stars Walter Henry Halls, father of front man Mike Halls, and follows the pair on one of their infamous father/son ‘Beatles Day’ bonding sessions, visiting the homes of the Fab 4 and taking in the sights and sounds of their home city of Liverpool.

Commenting on the video, Halls says: “In line with the analogue world we’ve taken the band into, the video for ‘Heavy As’ wasn’t going to be an exception, so I bought a 1960s Canon 1218 film camera and asked Ev to follow me and my Dad for the day.”

“We had one go at every shot, no time to do a test run—so no idea if the camera even worked—and we were chasing the light the whole time. It was the antithesis to how we’ve made videos in the past on major labels, and that was kind of the magic of it, really. It was truly authentic. The main aim of the day was just to make a boss memory with my Dad…if we got a music video out of it too, that was a bonus.”

The single is the first to be taken from the band’s recently announced fourth album, titled Hiss, set for release in 2022 on new independent label home Alcopop! Records—the band have also signed to Team Love Records for the album’s US release.

Earlier this year, in June 2021, the band celebrated signing to Alcopop! Records and Team Love with a long-awaited digital release of their previously physical-only third album Mother’s Milk, which has racked up over 300,000 streams on Spotify in just a month. Recorded straight to tape in their Liverpool studio Deadroom, and finished in Nashville (on a trip booked after a visitation from the ghost of Jonny Cash), Mother’s Milk dove deep into family, love and loss.

The band subsequently released a short documentary film titled ‘Curdled: The Mother’s Milk Story’ with footage of the recording sessions and forced halt of plans for touring/release due to COVID, which can be seen here.

In July 2021 the quartet were one of the first musical acts back on the road, as they set out on a triumphant run of rescheduled socially-distanced UK headline tour dates in support of the record, with many dates either sold out or upgraded, and were supported by keys player Evelyn Halls’ solo project Pet Snake.

Clean Cut Kid will be revealing further details of the new album and live dates over the coming months. The band’s recently announced Winter 2021 UK headline tour dates are on sale now (see below for listings).
