A biker thinks he’s hit the jackpot after a day of running drugs and money across Los Angeles, but eventually realizes he’s been duped and has to run for his life in the new video for Quaker City Night Hawks’ latest single ‘Suit in the Back’.
Created and co-directed by Max Loeb and Kilby Rodell of Orange Bungalow Productions (Rodell is also part of the creative team from Adult Swim’s Dream Corp LLC), the video’s inspiration comes from an unlikely source.
“The chief inspiration for this video came from Glenn Fry’s ‘Smuggler Blues,”say Loeb and Rodell. “It has an action-packed story that moves, and we felt like ‘Suit in the Back’ was a great fit for that sort of fast-paced narrative style. The song has this badass outlaw-swagger that seemed right at home in the world of smugglers, strippers, and motorcycles. At the same time, the lyrics tell a bit of a cautionary tale – ‘You gotta lose something if you wanna live that way’ – which prompted us to give our main guy a big downfall at the end.”
Quaker City Night Hawks’ Sam Anderson says, “I’ve always been a fan of any art Kilby touches and this is no exception. Watching him and his team create a visual representation of our music was fascinating.” Quaker City’s Aaron Haynes adds, “no one wants to see a band in a video…it’s 2019. Kilby rules!”
A standout from Quaker City Night Hawks latest album QCNH, which is out now scoring a top 20 debut on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, Rolling Stone says that ‘Suit in the Back’ “walks a swaggering walk.” The actual inspiration for the song came from a run-in with the law, when the band were pulled over and taken to jail on the way to open for Chris Stapleton.
