Rising Scottish emo band DUDE TRIPS are proud to reveal the official video for their heartbreaking new single ‘Gentle’ released on 2nd July 2021.
The band are also pleased to announce an appearance at Cardiff’s PWER Festival on 4th September and a run of September 2021 co-headline UK dates with Brighton dirty pop trio All Better (Side Mission Records)—see below for listings.
An emotional tribute to his dog Miko, which is sure to tug at the heart-strings of any pet owner, vocalist/guitarist Shaun Ross says of the track: “This is hands down the most emotionally challenging song I’ve ever written. I brought it to the table after months of isolated writing. I chose to title the song ‘Gentle’ for two reasons: one being that it was a word I used to communicate with Miko every single day, and the other being that it described his nature perfectly. He was a gentle giant that loved nothing more than spending time with his family.”
Shedding light on the grieving process after the passing of his faithful friend after 11 years, throughout the song Ross paints a vivid picture of companionship, and the unexpected pain of unavoidable loss.
“Throughout the 11 years we spent together I had never actually given much thought to what it’d be like or how I’d cope when it was his time to go. I guess you could say I was oblivious to the obvious—that death is certain—but it didn’t really cross my mind till it was too late. One day he was there in all his usual spots, then the next I was kissing him goodbye in the garden. It’s one of those things you think you’ll never have to do, then that day comes and believe me, nothing can prepare you for that day.”
“But one bad day doesn’t outweigh the years you spend together full of love, fun and mischief. We made 11 years of fond memories I can look back on, and just like I say in the song, ‘if I had the chance, I’d do it over again.’”
DUDE TRIPS recently signed to Gallows’ label Venn Records for their fourth EP, You Are The Reason I Hate Leaving, which is released on 6th August 2021.
