Austerity Records are pleased to announce that they have signed East Sussex dream-punks WINTER GARDENS and will release their debut EP Tapestry on 25th September 2020.
Commenting on the record, the band say: “The EP epitomises our shared love for the beauty in the world, both obvious and hidden. ‘Life’s Rich Tapestry’ is how we perceive nature, art, and world affairs.”
To celebrate the news, the band have revealed a video for the title track ‘Tapestry’, which is out now on all good DSPs.
“‘Tapestry’ is a crescendo of artistic emotion,” say the band of the lead single. “It was written with a truly brooding passion for art and all things creative, to show how reality can be portrayed on a canvas.”
Taking influence from 80’s post-punk, 4AD and Creation-era bands, Winter Gardens have developed their own dream-punk sound, combining the ethereal, hazy dream-pop with the raw energy of punk. Through it all, the band wear their influences proudly, from the sonic soundscapes of early shoegaze to the atmospheric synth scores of electronic pioneer Wendy Carlos.
Hailing from the South Coast of England, since forming in mid-2018, Winter Gardens have played numerous live shows across the country alongside Say Sue Me, Piroshka, Magic Wands and Penelope Isles, subsequently embarking on a UK tour with Acid Tongue and appearing at Rockaway Beach festival alongside Gary Numan and Echo & The Bunnymen.
Produced by Luke Marsden and band member Jamie Windless, the Tapestry EP was mixed by Luke Marsden, and engineered by Alex Gordon and Luke Marsden. The band will be revealing further details of the record and new music over the coming weeks.
The band’s new label, Austerity Records, is a new socially-conscious independent record label owned by friends Jamie Windless and Garry Saunders. The label also raise and donate money to various charities at their live events.
“The pressing plant we use is the most eco friendly pressing plant in the world,” Windless says of the label’s DIY ethos. “From the merchandise to the riders we supply, everything we invest in is ethical and fair—that was our intention with starting the label. We make very minimal profit as we ensure everything is sourced fair trade, recycled or organic where possible.”
