Queen Zee & The Sasstones Announced For Reading & Leeds Festivals

11th August 2017

As exclusively revealed by BBC Radio One new music champion Huw Stephens earlier this week, Liverpool’s Queen Zee & The Sasstones are pleased to announce they will be playing Reading & Leeds Festival this year on the BBC Introducing stage, with the release of their debut EP Eat My Sassalso announced for 22nd September 2017.

To celebrate the news, the band have revealed a video for their new single ‘Boy’ which you can watch and share here:

Commenting on the announcement and track, Queen Zee says: “We’re very happy to be bringing a bit of noise to the BBC Introducing stage at Reading and Leeds this year. The Sass Gang won’t be pulling any punches.”

“Boy is an outsider anthem – it’s about how people are so eager to make you into what they want you to be. Whether that’s your gender or sexuality or just how you dress. The lyric ‘you can try and bury my head in the sand, but that won’t make the body at the surface a man’s’ really sums it up. No matter how much someone wants to be a certain way, you are what you are and we should celebrate that not tear it down.”

“The video revolves around identity. There are masks and a “ghost queen zee” – I’m fascinated by masks and the idea of privacy, especially when we live in a world of social media and everyone’s identity has to become almost a brand image of themselves. We had a lot of fun, and tried to represent the darker side to it”

The Sasstones have been playing ferocious sets across Merseyside for the past six months and will now take their infamous live show on the road for the first time this autumn across the whole of the UK.

Queen Zee and the gang’s debauched hometown gigs are getting bigger, wilder and more notorious every time they play, with appearances at Liverpool Sound City, Manchester Punk Festival and a support slot with Steve Lamacq’s new favourite band, Shame, earlier this summer cementing their reputation as one of the North West’s must-see new live bands.

Quickly gaining support from the likes of Wonderland Magazine, Clash Magazine, Bido Lito! Getintothis, and landing themselves on several high-profile Spotify playlists already, their singles have so far picked up plays from BBC Radio One, BBC6 Music, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and Radio X.
