Making music for the eyeliner emo kids with a sugary pop addiction, MARiMARi’s music showcases a vulnerable boldness with reflections on femininity and self-expression. Growing up Japanese-British on a diet of Kesha, Paramore, and Charli XCX, she has rapidly grown a cult-like fanbase, solidifying her status as a leading figure in the North West’s queer and alternative music scene.

Her debut mini-album, MARi GO ROUND, is made up of seven angsty, glitchy y2k pop tracks to create the ultimate IT-Girl mixtape. Written in the heart of East London with bestie producer Harry Paynter, the record offers a sense of empowerment and chaos through feminine expression.

The self-titled nature of the album offers an intimate insight into MARiMARi's brain and what it feels to be 22, Japanese-British, and queer, and is a glittery protest against the male-centred music industry.

Featuring DIY Pop powerhouse vi0let and working with names such as INKiD (Zara Larsson), badbadbad (PIXY) and Wolf Cutt (Mae Muller, Danny Brown) the release has already left a mark on the hyperpop, alternative and queer scenes.

Riding off the back of the success of the launch, MARi recently hit the road for the MARi GO ROUND tour, including a sold out show in London (The Grace), Liverpool (Rough Trade) and finally Manchester in September—she will also be playing Together Again Festival and YNot Festival this summer.

Already turning heads at BBC R1’s Future Alternative show and Spotify’s official GLOW Songwriters, hyperpop, New Pop UK, and Evolver playlists, 2026 is increasingly looking like the year of MARiMARi’s rapid ascent.
